SQRL
SQRL privacy policy
Last updated July 24, 2026
SQRL is a non-custodial Bitcoin and Ordinals browser extension operated by Squirrel Systems LLC. This policy describes the public launch configuration for Chrome and Brave.
Data kept on your device
- Encrypted software-seed vaults and wallet keys.
- Wallet accounts, addresses, activity state, labels, settings, and site permissions.
- Lock state and session information needed to operate the extension.
Recovery words, private keys, and wallet passwords are not sent to Squirrel Systems. Removing a vault through SQRL or uninstalling the extension removes its local extension storage, subject to browser behavior and any backups you independently created.
Hosted gateway requests
SQRL contacts wallet-api.squirrelsystems.net for signed service
status, public blockchain discovery, classifications, fees, broadcast,
prices, and bounded inscription information. Requests may contain public
wallet identifiers such as addresses, scripts, outpoints, or transaction
data needed for the requested function. Broadcasting necessarily submits a
signed transaction to the Bitcoin network.
Operational logging
The gateway disables ordinary request logging. Its privacy-safe operational events contain a request identifier, method, operation, status, duration, and non-sensitive result codes—not wallet addresses, transaction contents, recovery material, or passwords. The production system journal is capped at 30 days.
No launch telemetry
SQRL does not automatically upload analytics, crash reports, support bundles, browsing history, or wallet activity exports. The site bridge does not disclose accounts, addresses, balances, inscriptions, or signing authority before explicit per-site approval.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use
Sqrl's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Read Google's Limited Use policy.
Service providers and public networks
Infrastructure providers may process network metadata to deliver and protect the gateway. Bitcoin transactions and public-chain information are visible on the Bitcoin network and may be observed or retained by unrelated third parties.
Your choices
You can revoke a site connection, lock or remove a vault, reset SQRL, or uninstall the extension. For a privacy request concerning gateway operations, email contact@squirrelsystems.net.
